CHEAD

S.H.E.D has been working with the Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD) since our humble beginnings in 2019.

In November 2019, our Creative Director Rhiannon Jones delivered a presentation as part of their event – Space and Place: exploring current issues in design of space facilities and environment for art and design teaching and research. The presentation got great feedback from the CHEAD members and challenged their perceptions of community engagement and the possibilities of art practice to facilitate dynamic dialogue in configurable spaces. It went down so well, we were invited back!

After a cancelled event in 2020 due to you-know-what, S.H.E.D was invited to manage the fringe and breakout sessions for CHEAD’s 2021 (online) annual conference. This included creating a virtual S.H.E.D breakout area for delegates to join, reflect and engage, as well as hosting the post-show discussion after Baroness Floella Benjamin’s keynote. As part of the conference, Rhiannon also introduced the global Design for Emergency platform. You can find out more about the conference on the CHEAD website.

In December 2021, Rhiannon joined as a speaker at the second CHEAD and All Party Parliamentary Group for Design & Innovation (APDIG) roundtable series, Art and Design Research: Applied to the UK’s Grand Challenges. The event was called Realising Arts and Design Research in Policy Making Decisions. Later that month, she was also invited to contribute to CHEAD’s Leadership Programme Seminar: Atypical Leaders. Together with Sheffield Hallam University’s Dr Eve Stirling and Nottingham Trent University’s Abid Qayum, the seminar covered concepts of leadership, identities, inclusivity, leading creatives and how to include the student voice.
